Lucinda offers calm, shallow waters that make it a welcoming spot for beginner divers and snorkellers. The site functions as an artificial reef, which tends to attract a good variety of fish life including trevally, queenfish, coral trout, and mackerel. Keep an eye out for Queensland grouper holding close to the structure, and there is a real chance of encountering sea turtles and dugongs in the area. Visibility is variable, so conditions can change between visits. Current is also variable, so check conditions before you enter. Watch for jellyfish and stay aware of boat traffic throughout your dive.

The site is the Lucinda Jetty. While one could snorkel from shore, the jetty is 5.76km long. Access to the pylons further out is best and most safely done by boat, which can be launched from the Dungeness boat ramp.
The area is an active shipping channel for sugar loading, so boat traffic is a primary hazard. Jellyfish (stingers) are a significant risk in North Queensland, particularly from November to May. Bull sharks are occasionally sighted in the area.
