Moore Reef's west side is a welcoming entry point for newer divers and snorkellers. The reef slopes from the shallows down to around 25 metres, giving beginners plenty of comfortable depth options in the 1 to 5 metre range while more confident divers can explore deeper. Visibility typically runs between 10 and 20 metres, and current here is mild, so you can take your time. Look out for sea turtles grazing on the reef, giant clams wedged between staghorn and brain coral, and reef sharks cruising the edges. Clownfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, and maori wrasse round out a varied and approachable reef experience.
